Wear Red Event Stresses Importance of Heart Health to Our Community
Women and men of all ages painted the Sheraton Bayfront Hotel red for the sixth annual Wear Red Heart Awareness Expo. Approximately 315 community members, as well as UPMC Hamot and Erie Insurance employees, gathered for the event held Feb. 3 in support of Heart Month. This is the highest turnout in the event’s history.
Educational opportunities were available for the guests including speakers and health screenings. Among the speakers were Kelly Hayes, MD; Mimi O’Conner, MS, LPC, NCC; and Audrey Swonger, CRNP. Attendees also took advantage of blood pressure screenings; cardiovascular, body mass index, and stroke risk assessments; and cholesterol and blood sugar testing.
An assortment of heart-healthy refreshments was also provided, and a number of vendors showcased their products.
This event would not have been possible without the numerous UPMC Hamot employees who volunteered their time. For those who were unable to attend the Wear Red event, another opportunity for free health screenings will take place Feb. 19 at the Let Me Call You Sweetheart event held at both Wegmans locations.
